George Lucas during the period of Star Wars production shopped at Beerbohm’s Comics and Comix. Lucas along with a Producer; Charles Lippencott (Went to USC w/Lucas) who is credited with recognizing the deep crossover between Comic Book Fans and Science Fiction. Lucas and Lippencott shopped the Comic Book Adaptation with Beerbohm. To say Robert was at times difficult to work with is an understatement. Lippencott after cold called Marvel Comics and Lucas went with Stan Lee and Marvel. It is “rumored” that Lippencott insisted that Princess Leia wear the Mexican Revolutionary hairstyle portrayed on the Cover of Spaced #1, since Leia was the leader of the Rebel Alliance. To Be Confirmed…
SPACED sold poorly, mainly local distribution, with limited distribution outside of the Bay area. #1-5000 w/Bats; 5000w/out/Bats on the Cover, #2-10,000, #3-5,000 (Treasury Size). Pinkoski bought back all unsold back-stock from publisher Robert Beerbohm (at Beerbohm’s request-owner of Comics and Comix Co.-The store where Pinkoski worked). Number of copies bought back by Pinkoski are unknown, but known to be significant.
Pinkoski was raised in a strict religious Catholic household. In 1983 Pinkoski declares he is “born again”. With this declaration, Pinkoski is now mortified by this art/story he created and considers it pornography. He destroys his entire back-stock of all the “Spaced” Issues. He then subsequently buys additional copies and destroys these as well. Pinkoski then decides to devote his talents to creating Christian themed Comics. He sent samples to previous industry contacts such as Gary Trudeau, Don Rosa, Bernie Wrightson (Married then to Ex-Coworker and Friend Roger Brand”s ex-wife Michelle and many more; to name a few).,,NO INTEREST.
Pinkoski’s Father worked in the Financial industry and was able to obtain a position for Jim as a clerk at a Bank of America Branch office in the San Francisco Financial District. With no formal Financial education, Pinkoski devises what he claims is “an Alternative Banking System”, (which you can read about currently on his website).
On Pinkoski’s Birthday June 25, 1984; (which is also shared by George Orwell-
pen name of Eric Arthur Blair). Pinkoski felt compelled to share his revelation with the world. That morning, Pinkoski brought a gun to work, barricaded himself in a back office and held the gun to his head (rumored he also had hostages). His demands for a peaceful surrender were to conduct a news conference. His request was granted. After a few hours, he was arrested without incident and led out of the Bank to a crowd of @100 people that cheered and sang Happy Birthday. Pinkoski received 3-years probation for the suicide stunt.
That is not where this ends. The San Francisco Police cordoned off a whole city block in the Financial districr for a few hours, inhibiting these businesses from operating, These businesses had “Business Interuption Insurance” and filed claims which were settled. These same insurance companies went after Pinkoski for restitution.
I seriously Doubt Pinkoski will sign these.
